The (New) State of Mobile Testing Pt.1

Testing

Mobility has changed the world. It has enabled convenience, disrupted established industries and created new ones. In an era of such tremendous growth, it is necessary to understand mobile. Mobile has driven the development of new software and as a result best practices are being established. Within the Software Development Lifecycle, Enterprises give generous time allocation to development. In comparison, mobile testing is required to be delivered flawlessly to the market within a very compressed time period.  This is often at the expense of a thorough execution of Quality Assurance, and at an enterprise level, can have dire ramifications.

Researchers at IDC project “strong growth in the worldwide discrete testing services market as companies turn to project-based or fully outsourced testing services to support application testing or product engineering testing requirements.”   This growth in mobile development of applications paired with cloud based platforms and tools have emphasized the requirement of excellent testing services across the board. When the various platforms, operating systems and multitude of devices are factored in, enterprises are not well equipped to do their own quality assurance while working within a budget constraint. The investments required for building an in-house quality assurance infrastructure are immense and time consuming.

Why endeavor such an ordeal? The best solution would be to leave it to the experts to do their job. Let me shed a little light on the testing ecosystem to explain why.  Read Pt. 2 next week for the answer!
