About Apexon:
Apexon is an AI-first technology services firm that engineers intelligent enterprises. Our interconnected disciplines of Domain & Strategy, Cognitive Architecture, and Harness Engineering guide every engagement, helping clients deliver meaningful business outcomes while applying collective intelligence to confidently scale from early AI strategies to enterprise-grade production systems. For over three decades, we have helped organizations by leveraging our deep and practical expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Data & Analytics, Digital Engineering, and Experience, combined with our industry knowledge across Banking & Financial Services, Healthcare and Life Sciences to create lasting business value. Apexon is backed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Everstone Capital.
We are seeking a talented and motivated Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our growing team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our systems. If you are passionate about leveraging modern observability frameworks, open standards like OpenTelemetry, and AWS CloudWatch to keep critical systems running smoothly, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Implement Observability: Design, implement, and maintain robust, enterprise-grade observability solutions using OpenTelemetry (OTel) and AWS CloudWatch to ensure the health, performance, and availability of our cloud-native applications and infrastructure.
- Standardize Telemetry Collection: Architect and deploy OpenTelemetry Collectors—including AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry (ADOT)—to standardize the collection, processing, and exporting of metrics, traces, and logs across multi-account AWS environments.
- Distributed Tracing & APM: Implement distributed tracing using OpenTelemetry SDKs and AWS X-Ray (or AWS AppSignals) to enable end-to-end application performance monitoring, dependency mapping, and rapid root-cause analysis.
- SLOs & Alerting Strategies: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and error budgets. Implement proactive alerting strategies using CloudWatch Alarms, composite alarms, and anomaly detection.
- Log Analytics & Correlation: Utilize AWS CloudWatch Logs and CloudWatch Logs Insights to analyze, query, and correlate structured logs with metrics and traces, accelerating mean time to resolution (MTTR).
- Incident Response & Automation: Develop and refine incident response playbooks. Configure and manage incident routing (e.g., PagerDuty) integrated with AWS EventBridge and CloudWatch Alarms to ensure swift resolution of incidents and minimize downtime.
- Performance & Capacity Planning: Continuously assess system performance through capacity planning, load testing, and performance tuning, leveraging CloudWatch Container Insights and custom OTel metrics.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Participate in the design and deployment of infrastructure automation (using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation) to provision and manage the observability pipeline consistently.
- Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to the documentation of observability best practices, standard operating procedures, and incident response processes to foster a strong engineering culture.
Qualifications:
- SRE Experience: Proven experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or similar role, with a strong focus on cloud-native observability, alerting, and incident management.
- OpenTelemetry Expertise: Deep understanding of OpenTelemetry standards, APIs, and SDKs. Hands-on experience configuring OTel Collectors (receivers, processors, and exporters).
- AWS Observability Stack: Strong expertise in the AWS monitoring ecosystem, including AWS CloudWatch (Metrics, Logs, Alarms), AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry (ADOT), and AWS X-Ray.
- Log Querying & Analysis: Proficiency in querying and analyzing log data using CloudWatch Logs Insights or similar structured log search tools.
- Incident Management: Experience setting up and managing on-call rotations, incident escalation workflows, and alert routing using PagerDuty or equivalent platforms.
- Automation & Scripting: Solid programming/scripting skills in languages such as Python, Bash, or Go, with the ability to automate operational tasks and instrument custom telemetry.
- Containerization & Orchestration: Familiarity with container platforms (e.g., Amazon EKS, ECS, Fargate, Docker, Kubernetes) and how to instrument them using OTel sidecars or daemonsets.
- Problem-Solving & Collaboration: Strong analytical skills with a proactive attitude toward identifying performance bottlenecks, and excellent communication skills for working in cross-functional environments.
